Once upon a time, there was a chef that stumbled upon a revolutionary internet recipe. It was called Essence, and there were multiple uses for it, the best being… gumbo!

It’s a recipe from Emeril Lagasse, the Food Network chef. And I am about to share it right here, although you can also find variations on the Food Network website. It’s super easy and gives everything a little kick of pizazz. Definitely worth trying!



2 1/2 tbsp. paprika

2 tbsp salt

2 tbsp garlic powder

1 tbsp black pepper

1 tbsp onion powder

1 tbsp cayenne pepper

1 tbsp dried leaf oregano

1 tbsp dry thyme


1) Blend together in a bowl, store in an airtight container.
