Strolling through the Florida Mall on a lazy, sunny afternoon with my roommate was a pleasant way to spend our Saturday. People were milling about, eating frozen yogurt, toting shopping bags. We meandered on over towards Old Navy when the air was suddenly pierced with the screams of dozens of teenage girls.
No, there wasn’t an emergency. No one was bleeding or injured or needed an ambulance. Well, maybe a few of them did, but for reasons that had nothing to do with physical harm. Nope, they had all surrounded a makeshift stage in the center of the Florida Mall and were shrieking at the top of their lungs, cell phones out to capture video of…a boy band?
At least, that’s what it looked like from the back of the crowd. Five boys in preppy attire clutching microphones, fist-pumping to a screaming and shrieking crowd of preteens.
“Who are they?” we half-shouted to someone nearby.
“IM5!” they shouted back.
We stood around for a few songs. They looked familiar…. and that’s when I placed them. I’d seen their video on Pinterest the week before! I’d even fangirled a little at the time. I pulled up the video. Yep, definitely the same guys.
Not that I was lining up for autographs or anything, but that was a pretty cool chance encounter. And they’re not bad live.
